THE PEOPLE //
A gal with a vision was introduced to a gal with skills and an idea was brought to life. Here’s a little dirt about each of them.
SAIREY GERNES // President + Founder
Background ::
I grew up in Minnesota and call that “home,” but I travel any chance I get, have lived in as many places as I could afford and try to experience as many things possible. My gypsy lifestyle, coupled with college and graduate school, have all helped to blaze the trail I am walking on today.
Training ::
I’m a trained Art Director with a passion for small boutiques, unique finds and being different. Through my contacts and having lived in various places, I’ve been exposed to a world of incredible art and design in all types of mediums. Although formally trained in art + design, I’d say my style was acquired informally by just living “out there”.
Influences + Inspirations ::
Vivid color and warm weather, people with passion, my mom, and a good glass of wine.
Style ::
Classic with something edgy. Something simple paired with something loud. Cowboy hats, big jewelry and a splash of color. Something old with something new and always something sexy – like my underwear.
Passions ::
Dancing anywhere, to music that makes you want to groove, floating on the water, sunny days, hammocks, a good glass of wine, football weekends, old friends, new friends, best friends, reading a book you don’t want to put down and meeting new people.
First or worst job ::
First; as a nanny to my cousin.
Favorite song on my ipod ::
Right now, “Red Light” by Johnny Lang
Guilty pleasure ::
Falling asleep on the back of a pontoon reading a book or a magazine, and forgetting about everything else.
Secret talent :: shh, it’s a secret…
What would you do if you knew you wouldn’t fail ::
Find a cure for cancer (yes, all of it).
If you had a superpower – what would it be ::
The ability to “genie” myself to places (and other people, too).
If you were a color you’d be ::
Red
CHERYL SAMS // Technical Designer + Product Development
Background ::
Minnesota born and raised with one brother and two sisters, I learned to sew at a young age watching and learning as our mother spent hours sewing clothes for three girls. That sewing interest managed to stick with me and has made a life long impact on where I am today.
Training ::
Formal training at the St. Paul Vocational College in Apparel Arts.
I learned techniques and gained a wide variety of experience from a very diverse group of individuals through my work experiences at Dayton’s and Nordstrom’s as a Master Fitter and Tailor. This is a field that is inspired by many different cultures and with each new encounter I was able to gain more knowledge and “tricks of the trade”.
I am self-taught in manual pattern design and grading. I also have experience working with a Gerber Pattern Design/Grading and Marker Making System in a Correctional setting that manufactures garments.
Influences + Inspirations ::
I am influenced by a challenge, always knowing that I will accomplish a grand result, certain that I will get there as I discover the path along the way.
Style ::
Cozy and Comfortable
Passions ::
Finding free time to spend with my family, my friends and my grandchildren.
First or worst job ::
My first job was at Porky’s Drive-In on University Avenue as a car hop running my butt off!
Favorite song on my ipod ::
“More” by Tyrone Wells.
Guilty pleasure ::
A fun road trip to anywhere and a good cup of coffee.
Secret talent ::
I can write anything and everything backwards!
What would you do if you knew you wouldn’t fail ::
Teach my trade.
If you had a superpower – what would it be ::
I’d like to take away the ill health and mental dysfunction.
